re: Nokia Lumia 900: Windows 7 Phone King
Very good read. A 32 GB model for an extra $50 would have gone a long way towards suppressing those who rightly say 16 GB's isn't enough. However, these people most likely tilt towards the power user side, which does not appear to be the primary target of Microkia at this point. NFC would have been nice as future proofing, but Microkia are ahead of the curve compared to end users with understanding when NFC starts to take off. Today, it's barely even niche, so I can see why MS is holding off on this one until W8. The remaining hardware limitation is 1080p video, which is a function of multi-cores, so no big deal for, again, the target audience that will be happy with 720p that uses less disk space.
In the U.S., the barrier is no longer features or number of apps for Microkia's target audience, but rather it's carrier support. I've been saying since CES 2012 that MS needs to do something strategic and bold: purchase US Cellular and MetroPCS, build out your own LTE network and disruptive the wireless carriers' pricing models. VZW is stabbing MS in the back. They complain about LTE support; MS delivers, the 900 and Titan 2 support LTE, and now VZW says they're punting on carrying updated WPs until W8. Sprint is simply bogged down financially with their huge bet / investment in the iPhone to push WP to the extent AT&T is on the verge of doing. But they could be doing more. Finally, the big apps ABS, Instagram, Pandora, etc will come when W8 arrives.
