This just shows how big Apple's digital ecosystem has become. And also how valuable it now is. Can they grow it? Maybe. I wonder what streaming and the cloud will do to Apple's business, as everyone pays for things like music as a service instead. I don't think that there is as much revenue in that pricing model.

Wow, $3 billion from the App Store. That's a powerful app ecosystem. Does this mean Apple can pay its taxes now?

It depends on the business model behind the app. For paid apps, iOS is still much better on average than Android. For ad-supported apps, Android is about the same as iOS. Making money though depends on having an app that really is well done and stands out. Most apps are not profitable.

Android comparison?
Tom, do you know how lucrative it is to write an app for iOS versus for Android or Windows? I guess given the cross-platform tools, most developers likely port to at least Android as well as iOS, but does that pay as well?
